Principal Julie and her team of instructors believe that Street Latin and Ballroom are best learnt in a fun and encouraging environment, with routines used as a guide only. With this in mind Danza Pasion helps people feel and move to the rhythm of the music and encourages the use of freestyle movements.
Even at the most advanced levels of learning, routines are only used to display what can be achieved rather than restrict the dancer. Whether it be the Cha Cha, Cha, Mambo, Salsa or Merengue the ultimate goal is for the students to create their own style and character.
Dancing is an excellent exercise that is always fun and exciting. It will keep you fit and trim, improving posture, strength and balance and all this is achieved while you have fun meeting new people, learning skills that will increase confidence and expand your social life. It is for both males and females, for all seasons, all ages and all levels of ability.
Leave your troubles at the door as you enter the uplifting atmosphere of great music and friendly people. If you have never danced before, no matter, because by the end of beginners' course you will be dancing. You don't need to have a partner as there will always be some one to dance with.
Danza Pasion has been a registered business in Perth for eleven years and we are very proud to say that we are already one of WA's biggest dance studios.

Poised with as much drama as the importance of its timing, this dance has its origins in the Bohemian underworld of Victorian Paris.
During the latter half of the 19th century (though
many still argue the true exact date), the Tango made
its way onto countless sea faring ships bound for Argentina through an eclectic mix of immigrants.
Whereas these people brought great love affairs of European art across the Atlantic (such as opera), the Tango became the physical expression of this music combining the Parisian Tango dance and a new found genre of classical music.
This new and uniquely Argentine music evokes very particular feelings compelling the true dancer to
recount a story of love through the spectacular
Tango. In this context, the Tango possesses a
continual sense of profound occasion. Similarly,
the Argentine Tango, although very technical,
remains highly subjective in the interpretation
of its timing. There are highs and lows,
sometimes involving patterns of arrangement
and sometimes being nothing short of erratic.
A great key to both the listener and dancer alike
is in the sensitivity of the music's crescendos.
Anticipating them requires a pure love, appreciation
and adoration of the theatre that is Argentine Tango.

Salsa
The Spanish word for "sauce", the Salsa certainly lives up to its namesake, sexy, sensual and saucy. The dance is Latin Afro-Caribbean inspired, but its roots are in tribal Africa, where the beat was strong and the movement frenetic. African slaves took the rhythm to Cuba where locals there, infused it with their own style and sounds. But it wasn't until it hit the streets of New York that the dance was officially named "Salsa".
With its melting pot history, it's little wonder that the Salsa is the most popular dance in the world. From New York to Cuba and LA, the style may change but the rhythm remains the same.
Mambo
Like its sister dance, the Salsa, the Mambo is also sensual only slower. It too, was born in South America, but the Mambo rose out of the hotspot of Havana, where it was introduced at the legendary nightclub "La Tropicana".
The fusion of Swing and Cuban music created a new dance sensation. As the style evolved, some movements were so acrobatic, they had to be banned. During its heyday in 1958, the Mambo was the hottest thing to hit the dance floor. The craze eventually died down, only to make a Hollywood comeback, thanks to big blockbusters like "Mambo King".
Merengue
No dance is shrouded in more mystery than the Merengue. This dance was born in the Dominican Republic and there are two theories on how it began. One is that slaves who were chained together were forced to cut sugar cane to the beats of a drum, dragging one leg behind them. The other is that there was a one legged war hero. When the hero soldier returned from battle villagers danced in the street and, to show their sympathy, they too dragged one leg.
Despite its history, the Merengue is meant to be fun. It's best suited to small, crowed dance floors, keeping the couples close. The dance is all about the beat of the drum and the pulsating, sexy hip movements that go with it.
Cha Cha Cha
It was thanks to the Mambo that the cheeky Cha Cha Cha was created... a fantastic combination of flirty, fun and fast steps. It has a very infectious rhythm which creates a very flirtatious dance. Like most latin dances it is done with the dancer's feet connected to the floor while keeping hips relaxed to enable free movement of the pelvis. What makes the Cha Cha Cha is so unique is the strong use of the beat... it makes the most of the beat of the music. It too was created during the Cuban dance craze of the 1950's when two styles were joined together to form a new fun and flirty dance.
Rumba
The Rumba is the dance of love... it's the seduction between the man and the woman through the sensual movement of the dance. It's the most beautiful of all Latin American dances. Top dance couples make it look so easy but the correct Rumba technique is very difficult indeed. However, the Cuban Rumba is more a rhythmic Street dance and it's more about the rhythm, roots and soul of the dance than the technique.
Like the Salsa it started with the African slave trade in Cuba. These unfortunate people danced more with their bodies than their feet but it was in America's dance halls of the 1930's that the Rumba gained popularity.
Jive
The Jitterbug (the Jive's direct ancestor) started in New York's Harlem Cotton Club, a predominantly black club. Most of the choreography contained in Jive's more contemporary siblings such as Lindy hop, Seroc and Rockabilly, owe their sheer physicality to their common ancestor, the Jive. It introduced true dancing technique while maintaining much of the raw atmosphere of the Jitterbug. When the Jive hit the dance halls in the 1920's it created a storm. Some even tried to have it banned, because they felt it encouraged youth rebellion. The Jive is a fast, fun dance with lots of movement, spins and kicks which reflects the happy music which it's danced to.
